Case study

Efficespace

EfficeSpace is a 2D virtual workspace where people move between rooms and speak with others nearby, without opening a new meeting link each time. Devy helped expand the platform’s capacity, browser support and interaction tools.

About Efficespace

In EfficeSpace, users move through a virtual office and automatically connect with the people around them. The format supports the quick conversations and group changes that are awkward to reproduce with a list of scheduled video calls.

Objectives

EfficeSpace needed to support larger offices without slowing down, work consistently in modern desktop browsers and prepare for native desktop and mobile applications. The product roadmap also included podiums, hand-raising and focus modes for more structured meetings.

Efficespace project context

The problem

The original infrastructure limited the number of people who could join a room or virtual office (an "effice"). Browser and device support also varied, making growth difficult without changes to the underlying architecture and client experience.

The solution

We reworked the backend to support up to 1,000 members in an effice and 100 participants in a room.

Efficespace solution 1

We improved support for Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, and began native application development for desktop and mobile devices.

Efficespace solution 2

Podiums let a speaker address everyone, hand-raising gives larger discussions some order, and focus mode helps people step away from surrounding conversations.

Delivery approach

How the work was delivered

The decisions that kept the product tied to the people using it.

Capacity built into the architecture

The backend changes raised the practical limits for rooms and virtual offices.

Broader access

Browser work and native application development made the product available across more of the devices teams already use.

Meeting tools that fit the space

The new controls support larger conversations without losing the freedom to move around the virtual office.
